Male Gos - rapid flight

17 Sept. Pioneer Trails RV Park 10:00 a.m.
1 male Gos- Finally a Gos has presented. What has happened to my Goshawks- male and female. Has a falconer taken from the nest. No matter- I still should have been observing NG during the time between Aug. 8 and now: on N. North Whidbey Island , in city limits of Anacortes, and here S.E. of city limits of Anacortes.
The hawk was gliding and pumping in straight-away flight and coming from the nesting area. It was overcast and dark and it will rain. The wind was at zero miles per hour. The hawk was at elevation of 500 - 600 feet.

male gos- Anacortes

6 August- 4:30 P.M. PTRVP
1 male Gos circling over and over again at 300 feet elevation- rising to 350 feet. This hawk had a square tip tail. Sighting - naked eye. Well, this is my first sighting of the Gos since 24 of May. So the goshawks have returned- but not really, they have never left the area (nesting area) about 2 miles away. Very recently, I have read in newspaper that Peregrine Falcons (chicks) have fledged, and rock climbing is now allowed on this particular area of Mount Erie. NG are also nesting in the area as are Bald Eagles, Osprey, Cooper's, and no doubt Red-tailed Hawks.

Quick-look Gos

24 May - 11:30 A.M. Pioneer Trails RV Park
1 male Goshawk at about 150 feet elevation, gliding. The hawk appeared to drop into trees. This makes 22 days since my last sighting: a very long time to come up empty, for the month of May. From this I must deduce; goshawks are on the nest or with their young (limbers).

Naked eye gos

This report was inadvertently placed on my www.goshawksofanacortes09.blogspot.com site. It has now been deleted and posted here.
26 April- 11:45 A.M. - Pioneer Trails RV Park. 1 male Gos- circling over and over again, at 300-400 feet elevation.

2 Goshawks

28 April- 11:30 A.M.- Alton Daniels Field (wetlands), Anacortes:

Notice the title- this is not the same as Goshawk Doubles. 1 Goshawk at about 800- 1000 feet elevation was pumping and gliding rapidly toward Guemes Island. 10 minutes later - 10 crow were making a commotion in the trees. A male Goshawk was also interested in the fuss, as he circled about at less than 100 feet elevation. It is possible that the sightings were of the same hawk. I could not gather any information relating to the tail-tip shape or the size of the terminal band, or if there was no apparent terminal band. Was the hawk at 1000 feet a female: The distance made it too difficult to sex that hawk, well not really. If that hawk was soaring , I would have a better understanding as to the sex, since the wing length (proportions) would be more apparent.
