26 February- 10:45 am- Benson
1 male goshawk soaring at 300 feet elevation. This hawk had a square-tip tail. Bright sun, but the sun was too high to reflect of the ventral areas in order to age the bird. Another example of how common is the Goshawk in most areas of Arizona!

Male NG Benson AZ
As expected we left Texas, since the weather was so poor. We cancelled a month in Rockport, and at least a month in Georgetown (Austin), having spent only 1 week in Austin. Now we will end the season in Benson, AZ.
8 February 1 P.M. at Saint David Monastery. 1 male goshawk at 300 feet elevation. OT- 2minutes. Also soaring 1 Red-tailed Hawk with a Peregrine and a Raven. We will and must go back to this area. I am quite sure I observed a Golden -fronted Woodpecker. We also heard the loud vocalization. What is exciting about this area and right in Benson are 2 birding ponds, with lots of ducks.
